lyrics

squattin land in a national park
we were there before the name Ozark
it was me, my brother bob and my dog named steve
an old pickup with no backseat
we cut some trees and we built us a farm
grew some things and we filled up the barn
i would whistle while my brother would sing
we did our drinkin from a freshwater spring

the grass is green and things are growin
its too early to tell how its goin
sometimes i think its better off not knowin
steve is high and bob is mowin
summers here and the wind is blowin
careful now i hear the rivers overflowin

we were sittin on the porch when the rain came down
things started poppin up from the ground
i grabbed a bucket and my brother grabbed hose
that hose was runnin till the Ozarks froze
and when they did we were gone
pack up the truck and move along
to no rules we were bound
we burned that farm down to the ground

the grass is green and things are growin
its too early to tell how its goin
right now i think its better off not knowin
harvested while the moon was glowin
now in the load that my truck is towin
careful now i think the rivers overflowin
